Dr. Ronald S. Garcia

Dr. Garcia received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology at UC Berkeley in 1985; then returned to Cal and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the UC School of Optometry in 1991. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and has held board positions with the local Redwood Empire Optometric Society. He is also licensed to practice full primary care optometry, including prescribing medications for the treatment of eye disease, prescribing glasses, conventional and specialty contact lenses, eye exercises for the treatment of muscular disorders, and consultation & comanagement of laser vision correction. He brings diverse eye care experience to the office having worked for San Francisco public schools screening their students for visual disorders; and through working 8 years with local Marin ophthalmologists. Personally, outside of having fun with his wife Paula and two sons, Derrick & Alec, Dr. Garcia is an avid sports fan of UCB's Golden Bears, and is a season ticket holder of the SF Giants and SF 49ers. He also enjoys camping, movies, mountain biking, scuba diving, and golf.

Dr. David A. Nakagawa

The following is a personal letter from Dr. Nakagawa:

To my Patients and Colleagues,
I am writing to let you know that after much deliberation, I have decided to retire from my practice at EyeDesigns Optometry. A number of factors weighed in this decision, the foremost being my desire to spend more time with my two young teenagers (while they are still ok having me around), and to continue the care of my 90-year old father, Henry. Also, it's been over 30 years since I started the practice, and it's time to step aside. Therefore, I will leave you in the good care of Drs. Ron Garcia and Jeff Iwami. I trust these doctors completely, and believe that you will find them more than able to take my place. I want to thank all of you for choosing me as your eye care provider, and hope you find this transition a smooth and successful one.

Dr. Nakagawa received his Doctorate degree from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1972 and his Masters degree from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health in 1975. Since then, he has devoted himself to providing comprehensive eye care to the patients of Marin County. In addition, to his successful private practice, Dr. Nakagawa is still on staff at the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in downtown San Rafael. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the local Redwood Empire Optometric Society. He is licensed to practice full primary care optometry, which includes prescribing therapeutic medication for the treatment of eye disease, prescribing glasses, contact lenses, & eye exercises for the treatment of visual disorders, and consultation & comanagement of laser vision correction. In his spare time, he enjoys sea kayaking,
whitewater rafting and spending time with his father and two children, Mari and Akira.

Dr. Jeffrey T. Iwami

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Iwami has joined our practice. Dr. Iwami brings to EyeDesigns Optometry over 13 years of optometric experience in Marin County. He received his BS degree in Psychobiology at UCLA in 1994 and his Doctorate from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1998. He is licensed to practice full primary care optometry: including prescribing medications, contact lenses, glasses, and vision therapy. He brings comprehensive eye care experience to the office having worked at EyeExam of California for over 10 years and as a visual disorder screener at East Bay public schools. On a more personal note, Dr. Iwami enjoys swimming, baseball, and spending valuable time with his wife and 2 daughters.

Linwood Naylor

Lin has been with EyeDesigns Optometry for over 15 years. He is an American Board of Opticianry-certified optician and a fellow of the National Academy of Opticiary with more than 30 years in the field of eye care. His strengths lie in specialty ophthalmic lens selection, contact lenses and patient care. Outside the office, Lin enjoys Baroque music, maritime history, and spending time with his parents and daughter.

Roger Lawton

Roger is one of the 3 Board Certified opticians on our staff, and he is in his tenth year with EyeDesigns Optometry. He was drawn to the field as a life-long eyeglass wearer and he especially enjoys working with new and returning eyeglass patients to help them select just the right style to complement their appearance.  He brings his creative eye for shape, form and color from his long-standing interest in photography... just one of his off-work hobbies!  When not clicking the shutter, his spare time is divided between cycling, swimming, yoga and choral singing... and most recently, playing the Ukulele.  Roger is also our "go-to" person for Spanish speakers.  His solid fluency in the language and strong knowledge of the Latin culture provide a welcoming presence to our growing Hispanic community.

Candace Irizarry

Candace is our newest staff addition to EyeDesigns Optometry.  A true California girl, Candace was born and raised in the Bay Area but only recently found a home in Marin County.  She is American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certified and comes to us with more than 5 years of optical experience.  With her background, Candace brings increased efficiency to our office as well as up-to-date knowledge of the industry.   In addition, as our eyeglass frame buyer, she keeps abreast of the current trends in eyewear and ensures we will have what you are looking for.  When not working, Candace enjoys raising her young daughter Khloe, and spending time with her family.

Fargo Rollins

Fargo returns to EyeDesigns Optometry after an extended maternity leave. Born and raised in the Bay Area she is a full-time mother, English/Creative Writing student, and experienced medical receptionist/optometric assistant. She can assist you with making appointments, contact lens ordering, sorting out your vision insurance needs, and generally ensuring your visit to our practice is a pleasant one.
